Guild Purpose

  • With the opening of new worlds the need for The Soldiers Of Light is paramount. As more new lands open so do opportunities for lamers and PKillers. Our primary purpose is to keep the worlds in which we travel safe for all the good people of all realms. The highest honor a SOL can achieve is to die in battle. But we prefer to reserve that honor for enemies and live to tell the tales of victory! We value honor, courage, respect, wisdom, and loyalty above all other virtues. These govern everything we are and do. They are our life's blood, more sacred to us than life itself. Courage is sacrifice to the ideals of honor and ability applied in the services of just causes. Therefore, it would not be uncommon for a SOL to enter a fight he or she knows they have no chance of winning to undo some injustice. Justice is our heart and soul. No person who ever espouses anything but the virtues of good over evil is ever accepted into our ranks.
  • We attempt to provide our members with the opportunity to role-play good characters outside the sphere of typical "GOOD" perceptions. We like to call it "Goodie with an attitude". To this end we will not hesitate to use the same tactics that evil uses on us, though we have strict rules of combat, conduct, and etiquette.
  • Although the guild focuses on Player versus Player (PvP) combat, role-play holds a high priority. All are welcome, all have a place is SOL. Not all are meant to be Soldiers, but soldiers cannot survive without the support of the citizen's which we serve.
  • We role-play a vicious and warlike priesthood based on Tempus, The Lord of Battles. Therefore it would not be uncommon for a soldier to jump into a fray he knows he has no chance of winning.

Information About Tempus

  • While Tempus is the God of the warrior and worshiped by all that engage in battle of both evil and good alignments, we have chosen to align ourselves with the forces of good. We do not fight those who are good since there is a seemingly endless supply of evil to do battle with. However, if a person is good and attacks a SOL, we will not hesitate to defend ourselves. While it is up to the individual to interpret the will of Tempus we have very strict rules regarding battle. These rules are expected to be followed to the letter, failure to do so will result in immediate dismissal from the guild, AKA "The Boot".
  • Role-Play: We are a priesthood and will be role-played as such, we are also strict concerning rules and respect toward fellow guild members and the citizens of the realms in which we inhabit. We fight for the good of all not just for the good of our guild and ourselves.

General OOC Rules Of Conduct

  • Every Sol is expected to know the rules of the realms in which he or she inhabits and to follow them. Repeated violations will result in dismissal from the guild.
  • Cheating in any way shape or form will not be tolerated. Weather it be bug manipulation or outright hacking, you will be dismissed immediately. Remember honor, courage respect wisdom and loyalty guide everything we are and do. You are expected to report bugs to the staff of the service that you inhabit.
  • Remember, there is a person behind the character you are addressing. Treat all people with respect. We are in a role-play environment, there is never a reason to go out of character on someone (OOC) unless you yourself are being attacked OOC. And at that point realize what you're dealing with and walk away. Every SOL is expected to know the difference between in character (IC) and out of character (OOC). Stay in character and eventually the person who can't separate the difference between IC and OOC will be shunned by other players in the game as well. We believe that this will promote a better role-play environment for all and eventually weed out the lamers and twits that show up in the games.

In Game Rules Of Conduct

  • As a Sol honor, courage, respect, wisdom, and loyalty guide everything you are and do in the games you play.
  • Bring honor to yourself and the guild through your actions.
  • Show courage even in the face of the gravest odds.
  • Respect all, especially your enemy.
  • Show wisdom in your actions.
  • Above all loyalty to your guild mates and your guild.
  • Grievances should never be aired publicly. That means Boards and guild wide mail. If you have a grievance bring it directly to the Arch Prelate or the counsel. Every member has the right to be heard even the newest acolyte. Public disputes will not be tolerated and bringing such grievance publicly will result in dismissal.
  • The guild, its members or its leadership should never be discredited in public, under any circumstances. (See grievances) Violation of this rule will result in immediate dismissal from the guild.
  • Should any member not be seen or heard from for a period of 30 days this member is considered missing. At that point a 30-day grace period will start. If at the end of this grace period the member in question hasn't been seen or heard from by either mail or in the game this member is removed from the ranks of SOL. If the missing member returns, their membership will be reviewed by the counsel.
    • If the member in question is a counsel member and is not seen or heard from in 15 days then no grace period is given and a replacement counsel member will be picked within a period not to exceed 30 days. This includes The Arch Prelate and all other counsel members.
    • To avoid this: if you know you will be on a prolonged absence then you must send a letter to the Arch Prelate with copies going to the High Prelate and the Elder Prelate Advisor as well as the Guild Scribes stating your leave of absence and the length of time you will be gone. If you don't know what the length of time will be, state that as well.
  • Meetings will be held weekly. All are encouraged to attend. Meetings will be an open forum, however when an important topic is being discussed we ask that you follow the following protocol:
    • If you have a question type a question mark. ?
    • If you have a comment type the letter c.
    • We do this because no one likes to be interrupted when speaking.
      • Lets face it no one likes to sit in a room and listen to someone else drone on, So in the interests of keeping everyone informed and keeping the meetings brief, lets follow the protocol. Failure to do this could result in you being fined, in game gold pieces or being asked to leave the meeting. If disruptive behavior continues you could be ejected from the guild as well.

Officers and Positions of The Soldiers of Light

Arch Prelate Guild Master

The Arch Prelate is the leader of the Soldiers of Light. He/she is responsible for over seeing all the functions and actions of the conclave and the proper maintenance of the Soldiers of Light. This includes alliances, wars and personnel decisions.

The Arch Prelate may not amend the charter without first submitting proposed amendments to the counsel. The counsel must then make any changes to the proposal and vote on the proposed amendments. All charter amendments must have a unanimous vote by the counsel in order to be valid and take effect.

The Arch Prelate may not remove any counsel member unless:

    • The counsel member has been missing for 15 days (See in game rules of conduct). If the Arch Prelate wishes to remove a counsel member he/she must have a 2/3 vote of the counsel approving the counsel member in questions removal. The counsel member being removed may vote in this process.

Should the guild ever find itself without an Arch Prelate, then the High Prelate will be his/her successor. Should the High Prelate not be available and or willing to take over the duties of the Arch Prelate then the position will be awarded to the Elder Prelate Advisor. Should the Elder Prelate Advisor decline or not be available then a new Arch prelate will be elected from the conclave by a 2/1 vote by the conclave. Should this method fail then a candidate will be picked from within the conclave and a simple majority vote by the general membership will decide the successor. Failing all this then a candidate will be picked from the general membership and a 2/3 vote by the general membership, including the counsel will decide the new Arch Prelate.

In addition to the afore mentioned duties The Prelate will also help in organizing guild wide events. At least one secretary must be present at the weekly meeting to record the minutes and any fines levied. This information is to be given to the High Prelate so he may keep the appropriate records and inform the AP.

Soldier

The Soldiers are responsible for reporting general events to the prelates. Full soldier status is achieved by completing the requirements of acolyte. Full soldiers have full voting rights in guild affairs. Soldiers are also eligible to hold other positions within the guild in accordance with the charter.

Acolyte

Acolytes are still probationary and not yet full members of the Soldiers of Light and therefore cannot hold any positions within the guild. Acolytes have no vote in guild matters. Acolyte status can be revoked at anytime. To achieve full solider status acolytes are required to complete quests. Quests will be set according to the individual game you are in. Acolytes are required to wear white. For an Acolyte to become a full member he/she must receive 3 votes from different members of SOL that hold the rank of full soldier or higher, and complete all the training courses offered by the guild. Further measures will then be taken according to the game you are joining.

If for some reason a member of SOL fails to comply with the leaders of the guild then he/she will be brought up before the conclave to have a hearing regarding their status.
